So here’s the deal: we talked to Spacecraft back in early November about throwing a Celebrate Winter and Snow and good-things-like-that kind of party for mid-December. kind of like what we’ve done in past seasons, get old friends and new together to catch up, talk story, and celebrate how fortunate we are to be living in the Northwest for another awesome Winter. that was all good until we came up short on the SNOW. so we postponed it and then of course, the snow came. lots of it.
So, i am happy to present to you, with ample help from Spacecraft Clothing (takeustoyourleader.com) the first-ever Obama Bunny Ball, at Havana in Capitol Hill, on Sunday (2 days before the real inauguration). Why a Bunny? don’t know. it just seemed like we had a lot of bunny energy laying around, like: the Spacecraft Bunny, of course, who we are negotiating with to come out of Winter Hibernation and make an appearance; the crazy bunny art that owen connell did for us years ago (see above) that we’ve printed on t-shirts for the night; the red/white/blue hand-knit bunnys that we asked Spacecraft to make for us at their ArtistCo-op in Bali. add to this red/white/blue beanies coming out of Bali as well, and we’ve got ourselves a regular puke-fest of Patriotism. which is all good, because it’s hip to be patriotic again, and why not celebrate the Fair Election of an American President.
Sean Cee will DJ, and he just told me that Sabzi from Common Market/ Blues Scholars will be laying down beats as well. that’s good! And Jen at the Upper Playground store on university ave is bringing some obama art posters from Mr.S. Fairy and others, and word is Seattle’s own Weirdo (mr. weirdo?) will have something original to share. I know for a fact that SnoCon’s favorite designer, J_Dub will be unveiling a new Obama poster, as will our new kid from Vermont, Andrew, who has made an obama poker card. we are trying to silk-screen the cards this week, and they will be in limited supply.
god, why do i write so much when i just want to invite you to a free party? ok, there’s more: any money collected will go to the Washington Bus (www.washingtonbus.org) a group of young rebels that canvas the state on behalf of progressive candidates.
so that’s it. fun people, a good cause (Hella Bus, Y’all!) and good beats and bunnys in different shapes and sizes.
